Nata in Bielorussia, Maruta Staravoitava risiede attualmente a Colonia. I suoi interessi musicali spaziano dalla musica barocca fino alla contemporanea, dove predilige la collaborazione con i compositori d’oggi. È tra i fondatori dell’ensemble svizzero Inverspace ed è membro permanente dell’EXPERIMENTAL Ensemble di Friburgo.

Ha suonato con altre numerose formazioni come Contrechamps a Ginevra, Contemporartensemble a Firenze, Musikfabrik e Garage a Colonia e l’Orchestra Nazionale di Santa Cecilia a Roma. Ha collaborato con direttori come Pierre Boulez, Antonio Pappano, Beat Furrer e Jonathan Nott.

Nel 2010, come membro dell’Accademia del Festival di Lucerna ha suonato il Pierrot Lunaire di A. Schönberg sotto la direzione di Pierre Boulez. Nel 2016 ha partecipato alla produzione del Prometeo di Luigi Nono al Teatro di Lucerna sotto la direzione di Clemens Heil.

Staravoitava ha suonato di frequente come solista e in formazioni da camera in festival come Wien Modern, Warsaw Autumn, Lucerne Festival, Davos Festival, Maggio Musicale Fiorentino, Borealis Festival, Tage der neue Musik Graz, Salzburg Biennale e ha partecipato alla stagione di concerti per giovani artisti alla Royal Opera House Covent Garden a Londra.

Ha tenuto numerose masterclass per flautisti e compositori all’Università Statale Bielorussa di Arte e Cultura a Minsk, al Collegio di Musica dell’Università delle Filippine a Manila, al Centro di musica elettroacustica a Mosca come al Conservatorio P.I. Tchaikovsky e alla Scuola di Musica e Arte di Paranà (Brasile).

E’ invitata regolarmente a suonare in festival internazionali tra cui il Festival Wien Modern, Warsaw Autumn, Moscow Autumn, il Festival di Lucerna.

I suoi concerti sono stati trasmessi dalla Radio Polacca, dalla Sud Westdeutsche Rundfunk e dalla Radio bavarese. Contribuisce alla registrazione cd Folk Songs (2014) con l’EXPERIMENTAL Ensemble all’Experimental Studio della SWR di Friburgo; Lo spazio apparente (2013) del compositore Maurilio Cacciatore and Fremde Zet addendum con l’ensemble MOCKBA.

Inizia gli studi di flauto e pianoforte all’Accademia d’Arte Nazionale di Minsk a sette anni con Svetlana Sitnikova. A diciassette è ammessa agli studi accademici del Conservatorio di Strasburgo con Mario Caroli, diplomandosi “con menzione”. Continua il suo perfezionamento con Felix Renggli alla Hochschule di Basilea. Il suo profondo interesse per le varie forme di espressione musicale la portano all’Università delle Arti di Berna dove consegue un Master in Teatro musicale sotto la guida di Françoise Rivalland.

Durante i suoi studi è stata assegnataria di borse della Fondazione Nicati de Luze di Losanna e della Fondazione Severino Gazzelloni di Firenze per la sua interpretazione di Donax di Ivan Fedele. Vince il primo premio all’unanimità del concorso UFAM di Versailles, il terzo al concorso Parnasse di Parigi e il secondo premio al concorso Eugen Coca di Chisinau.

Born in Belarus, flutist Maruta Staravoitava currently resides in Cologne. Her musical tastes range from Baroque to contemporary music, where she particularly enjoys working directly with living composers. She is a proud member of the Inverspace ensemble in Switzerland, as well as the EXPERIMENTAL Ensemble in Freiburg, Germany.

She has also performed in numerous ensembles such as Contrechamps in Geneva, ContempoArtEnsemble in Florence, Ensemble Musikfabrik and Ensemble Garage in Cologne, and the Santa Cecilia Orchestra in Rome. She has collaborated with conductors such as Pierre Boulez, Antonio Pappano, Beat Furrer and Jonathan Nott.

In 2010, as a member of Lucerne Festival Academy, performed, among other works, Pierrot Lunaire of Schoenberg under the direction of Pierre Boulez. In 2016 she participated in the production of the opera Prometeo by Luigi Nono at the Lucerne Theater under the direction of Clemens Heil.

Maruta performs as a soloist and chamber musician frequently in festivals such as Wien Modern, Warsaw Autumn, Lucerne Festival, Davos Festival, Maggio Musicale Fiorentino, Borealis Festival, Tage der neue Musik Graz, Salzburg Biennale and in the concert season for young artists at the Royal Opera House Covent Garden in London.

An active teacher and animateur, Maruta has delivered many flute and composition masterclasses at the Belarusian State University of Culture and Arts (Minsk), the University of the Philippines College of Music (Manila, Philippines), the Center for the Electroacoustic Music at Moscow P.I. Tchaikovsky Conservatory (Russia) and at the School for Music and Fine Arts in Paraná (Brazil).

She is invited regularly to play at international festivals such as the Wien Modern Festival, Warsaw Autumn Festival, Moscow Autumn Festival, and the Lucerne Festival in Switzerland, among others.

Maruta’s concerts have been broadcast on Radio Poland, Sud Westdeutsche Rundfunk and The Bavarian Radio. She has also appeared on the records Folk Songs (2014) with the EXPERIMENTAL Ensemble at the Experimental Studio of SWR Freiburg; Lo spazio apparente (2013) with the composer Maurilio Cacciatore; and Fremde Zet addendum with the ensemble MOCKBA.

Maruta began studying flute and piano at the National Arts Academy from the age of seven with Svetlana Sitnikova. At seventeen, Maruta won an academic place at the Conservatoire Nationale in Strasbourg (France), with Mario Caroli; earning an Advanced Diploma and the interregional prize with Honours. She then continued her studies with Felix Renggli at Hochschule für Musik in Basel. Her profound interest for diverse forms of musical expression then led Maruta to the Bern University of the Arts , where she completed her Masters in Music Theatre under the tutelage of Françoise Rivalland. 

During her studies, Maruta was a bursary recipient of the Fondation Nicati de Luze in Lausanne; and was awarded by the Foundation Severino Gazzelloni (Florence) for her performance of the work Donax by Italian composer Ivan Fedele. Additionally, she was awarded the unanimous first prize of the UFAM competition (Versailles), the third prize at the Parnasse competition (Paris) and the second prize at the Eugen Coca competition (Chisnau).
